Jadwal MotoGP 2010 Japanese delayed

The Japanese round of the MotoGP world championship at Motegi this weekend has been postponed to October 3 due to air travel problems caused by the cloud of volcanic ash in Europe Eyjafjallajokull Mountain Iceland, officials said on Monday.

The governing International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) said in a statement that the decision was a case of 'force majeure'.

An ash cloud from an Icelandic volcano has stopped air transport in and out of much of Europe, where the teams and riders are based.

Japanese MotoGP round rescheduled for October, The new date means the Japanese race, which would have been the second of the season, will now slot in as round 14 of the championship before Malaysia and Australia.

The next race will instead be at Spain's Jerez circuit on May 2. Italian world champion Valentino Rossi leads the standings.

Formula One teams, all European-based, and international media were also facing significant difficulties in returning from China after Sunday's grand prix in Shanghai.

Spanish driver Jaime Alguersuari told followers on his Twitter page that he was flying back home to Barcelona via Beijing, New York and Madrid.

Others got as far as Dubai or headed for other destinations in Southeast Asia.

"The whole paddock in a mess... some people flying around the world to USA just to get a connecting flight to anywhere in Europe," reported the Spanish-based Hispania team's Indian driver Karun Chandhok.

"Luckily for me, India is unaffected. So (I) cancelled my flight to London. Will go and wait at home."
